The history of these fall Angus sales in Wabaunsee county. In 2003, we instituted the DRI/KCC “Built for the Long Haul” fall production sale, held the 1st Friday in November with our good friends the Kniebels. However, the story starts 40 years earlier in 1963. Our good friends, mentors & neighbors at Shamrock Farms had been holding an Angus production sale on the 1st Friday in November beginning in 1963 and were moving towards retirement. After selling some bulls in their event for a couple of years and growing DRI operations, George & June Crenshaw generously offered us the Shamrock date. Thus, the tradition of top-quality Angus seedstock available in NW Wabaunsee County, KS continues on uninterrupted for over 60 years.
The spring sale is born, but without the auction format. Several years back, we made a few yearlings available in the spring for our customers who were in a bind and couldn’t wait until fall. As we grew operations, we started “officially” offering bulls in the spring. As demand for those bulls grew, we were running into the problem of folks wanting the chance at first pick of everything. How could we be fair to all and maintain our sanity? Liking the relaxed atmosphere of our spring private treaty sales and the ability to take lots of time with each individual customer, we settled on an official start to the private treaty season. Read how we do that below.
The best we have to offer in the spring and fall. No matter which sale you choose, rest assured there will be our best yearling & age-advantaged bulls for sale, spring or fall. There will be no quality difference in either sale. The bulls selected for spring OR fall represent a cross section of ALL the bulls. You can be assured of the best-of-the-best offered at both editions of our sales.
Purchase 3 or more bulls and receive $100 off per bull.
Pick up your lots the day of the sale and receive a $200/lot discount. We will deliver bull lots over $4,500 or volume bull purchases (3 or more head) within a 300 mile radius.
For $600 per head, we will calve out your purchased bred heifers and guarantee a live calf. In the event of loss, a replacement, refund, or future sale credit will be offered.
Insurance is available at settlement for 1 month to 1 year and is strongly encouraged for protection against unforeseen loss.
Should you choose, we will keep your new bull purchase until April 15. Fees for this service are designed to cover “room and board” along with insurance to protect your valuable investment(s).
Pick up your lots the day of the sale and receive a $200/lot discount. We will deliver bull lots over $4,500 or volume bull purchases (3 or more head) within a 300 mile radius. We will update vaccinations and conduct a BSE prior to April 15.
Should your bull not be serviceable on April 15, we will replace him with one of like kind. If a suitable replacement is unavailable, we will refund purchase price + the wintering fee.
Bull Wintering Program: $450 + 4% of purchase price for insurance, due on sale day.
Your bull is a valuable asset and we’ve done everything possible to ensure you get a problem-free bull. For 3 years, we guarantee:
If not, you will receive a prorated credit to use in a future sale, less the amount of salvage value you receive. Calendar Year 1: 100%, Year 2: 67%, Year 3: 33%. For example: You pay $5,500 for a bull and his semen fails to meet BSE requirements the next spring. You talk with us, we agree he ships and you receive $1,200 in salvage. That means you get a credit for $5,500 – $1,200 = $4,300 to use in a future sale. If the same situation occurred in year 2, you’d be entitled to 67% of the purchase price less salvage (67% x $5,500 – $1,200 = $2485 credit. In year 3, that would be 33% x $5,500 – $1,200 = $615 credit.
We can not cover factors we can’t control, including but not limited to injury, fighting, disease, founder, lightning, death, freeze damage, etc. We’re simply guaranteeing that if you do your part and take good care of your bull(s), we’ll promise his feet stay sound and his ability to produce semen remains.
Please call us immediately if you have a problem so we can solve it together.
